In honor of our 10-year anniversary, we are highlighting 10 remarkable Earthchildren from the past and present. Our Earthchild Spotlight number four is Carin-Lee Williams who is 10 years old and in Grade 4 at Hillwood Primary School in Lavender Hill. To say that Carin-Lee lights up a room when she starts talking is no exaggeration. Her passion and confidence radiates from her within, and she attributes her inner light to yoga and her experience with Earthchild Project.
What is the role of Earthchild Project in your life? The worm farming is pretty great. It teaches me how to care for animals and the environment. This is my first year doing yoga with Earthchild Project. I feel like I’m different, sort of…I can now do the kind of things that I was never able to do before with my body.
How has Earthchild Project affected who you are today? Yoga with Earthchild Project has taught me about my body. It makes me and my body feel awake, especially when I go back to class. I feel like I could do anything. I’ve never felt like I feel now.
Have you passed on what you have learnt through Earthchild Project to your friends and family? Yes, I have shared it with my cousin, Amy. I show her how to do the poses and if she can’t do them, then I help her. I would like to teach other children what I have learnt through Earthchild Project.
What is your favorite yoga pose? It’s something like “earthchild” [child’s pose] – oh, and down dog. Yea, that one is great. And also the snake one [cobra]. I like those ones. They make my body feel good.
It is so inspiring to see young yogis such as Carin-Lee who are passionate about the change that yoga and mindfulness can make in their lives, both at school and at home. To know that our Earthchildren want to share the gift of yoga with other children show’s for a hopeful future for this generation.
