Earthchild Spotlight: Chriswin Christians

In honor of our 10-year anniversary, we are highlighting 10 remarkable Earthchildren from the past and present. Our Earthchild Spotlight number seven is Chriswin Christians who is 10 years old and in Grade 4 at Hillwood Primary School in Lavender Hill. More than just a beautiful name and an absolutely charming face, Chriswan is a bright young student who realises the value of the environment in his life and the need to keep it safe for future generations. Such young eco-warriors continue to inspire us in our work and daily lives.

2016oct__amanda-norrlander-1-2What is the role of Earthchild Project in your life?
I do yoga and worm farming with Earthchild Project.

How has Earthchild Project affected who you are today? It has taught me how to be more soft with myself and with other people.  If people talk about things that don’t concern me, I don’t mind anymore, like I used to. Yoga helped me with this.

What is your favorite yoga pose? I like the chair. Chair pose is a strong one. I also like the snake (cobra).

Have you passed on what you have learnt through Earthchild Project to your friends and family? I teach my cousin who is also in Grade 4 how to do yoga. He doesn’t know yoga, so I get to show him that. And I taught him the Yoga Pledge. He likes that one.

What do you enjoy best about Earthchild Project? I enjoy the worm farming and the lessons, because they teach me about the environment and how it can make me feel good. It shows me that I must keep the environment safe for the future.

How do you want to use what you have learnt from Earthchild Project in the future? I want to show other children that they can also do what I can do. That they can also be fit and healthy and also love the environment.

2016oct__amanda-norrlander-1-3After the interview, Chriswin chose to show us some of his favourite yoga poses, which include the chair pose. Although he shows strength in this pose, he shows even more strength of character through his words and values which he attributes to Earthchild Project. We hope he does continue to share what he has learned with other children so that he certainly can contribute to a brighter future for our youth.
