Nurturing leadership potential and self-development
Leadership Training Holiday Programmes
Over the years, many of the children we have worked with have shown great leadership potential. Many have continued to stay involved in our Programmes, wanting to pass on to the younger children what they have learnt. We want to nurture this potential!
Each year we select 20 Grade 7 young leaders from each of our two focus schools. These groups attend a one week Holiday Programme in both the April and June school holidays. The focus for the April Programme is on self-development and the focus for June is to develop skills in areas such as how to plan and run activities, public speaking, facilitation skills, and project management. This group of young leaders then support the Earthchild Facilitators to run the September Holiday Programme for 100 younger children from each of our two focus schools.
September Holiday Leadership Programme
100 children from each of our two focus schools attend five days full of learning and fun. Each day begins with one hour of yoga and meditation, followed by a variety of sessions such as gardening, drama & music, arts & crafts and more. The programme is run by the Earthchild Project staff, a team of volunteers, as well as the group of Young Leaders.
Each day includes a healthy snack and lunch, and on the last day everyone comes together for a celebration and presentation of all the weeks’ activities.
