On Sunday 22 June, we gathered again at Rooftop on Bree to celebrate a powerful milestone – the 10th Annual International Day of Yoga (IDY) hosted by Earthchild Project ambassador, Joelle Sleebos. What began a decade ago has blossomed into a vibrant, purpose-driven community celebration that uplifts lives through the gift of yoga.

Since the United Nations officially declared 21 June as International Day of Yoga in 2014, this global observance has served as a beautiful reminder of yoga’s power to connect, heal, and transform. At Earthchild Project, this celebration is an opportunity to raise vital support for our programmes that bring yoga and mindfulness to thousands of children in under-resourced schools across Cape Town. This year, thanks to generous donations, ticket sales, and our epic raffle filled with prizes from incredible partners, we raised R27,670.00 – enough to sponsor 111 children with weekly yoga for an entire year. That’s 111 young lives impacted through movement, stillness, and self-love.

As Joelle shared,

Celebrating the 10th International Day of Yoga at Rooftop on Bree was a heartwarming testament to the unity and generosity of our Cape Town yoga community. Together, we shared breath, movement, stillness and connection and raised funds to bring the gift of yoga to children through the Earthchild Project. Thank you for being part of this journey—your presence and support truly make a difference.

This year’s event was pure magic. From dynamic Vinyasa and grounding Yin to Kids Yoga led by our Programme Manager Noks Jada, Sound Healing, and a bustling yoga market, every moment radiated connection and purpose.

Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or stepped onto the mat for the very first time, your energy contributed to a day rooted in compassion, unity, and giving back.

As we celebrate a decade of IDY in Cape Town, we are deeply grateful to our sponsors, teachers, volunteers, and everyone who showed up and supported this cause.

✨ Here’s to the ripple effect of yoga, both on and off the mat.
