In many under-resourced communities like Khayelitsha and Lavender Hill, young girls face significant challenges when it comes to menstrual health. A lack of access to sanitary products can lead to missed school days, discomfort, and even a sense of shame around a natural part of growing up. At Earthchild Project, we believe that no girl should be held back from education and opportunity simply because of her period. That’s part of why we created our Crown Sisters Clubs which provide a safe, supportive space where girls can learn about self-care, body confidence, and personal empowerment.
This year, we are thrilled to partner once again with The Shala Yoga Studio who are fundraising towards R10,000 for our Crown Sisters Club. These funds will go towards providing reusable, antimicrobial SafePads for our girls, ensuring they have a sustainable and dignified solution to menstrual health. SafePads are designed with antimicrobial technology, meaning that they can be safely washed even in unclean water – an innovation that ensures long-term hygiene and usability. Not only do these pads reduce the financial burden of buying disposable products, but they also have a positive environmental impact by cutting down on waste.
A Long-Standing Partnership for Change
The Shala Yoga Studio, led by Earthchild Project Ambassador Tamsin Sheehy, has been an incredible supporter of our work for years. Through their past Girlchild Campaign, they raised funds to provide reusable pads for our girls, helping them stay in school with confidence. Over the years, The Shala has contributed over R200,000 towards Earthchild Project, even sponsoring a classroom at Ntwasahlobo Primary School in Khayelitsha. This ongoing commitment is a testament to the power of collective action and community-driven change.
Why This Matters
For many of the girls in our programme, having access to reliable menstrual products is life-changing. It means they can attend school with confidence, focus on their studies, and participate in activities without fear or embarrassment. Beyond that, the Crown Sisters Club provides a safe space where they can openly discuss puberty, health, and wellness – all of which are topics that are often overlooked or considered taboo.
How You Can Help
The Shala’s fundraiser is an opportunity for our community to come together and make a meaningful difference in the lives of these young girls. Every contribution, big or small, helps us get closer to our goal. With just R200, you can sponsor a pack of reusable pads for one girl, giving her comfort and confidence for years to come.
By supporting this campaign, you are not just providing a practical solution, you are sending a powerful message that these girls matter, that their education is important, and that their dignity is worth protecting.
Please donate today and share this campaign with your networks. Together, we can uplift and empower the next generation of strong, confident young women.
Huge thank you to Tamsin and everyone in The Shala community for driving this powerful campaign!
