At Earthchild Project, we believe in the transformative power of nature. Imagine a bustling organic food garden in the heart of Khayelitsha, Cape Town’s largest township. This is the exciting project that we have planned for 2024 – transforming a previously barren space into a thriving oasis, in collaboration with EarthChild eV and Urban Harvest, and with the support of our community and donors. We are so excited to be turning this vision into reality at Ntwasahlobo Primary School, nurturing a new generation of eco warriors and change-makers.
In a community overshadowed by high unemployment, gangsterism, and substance abuse, many children have never experienced the tranquility of nature. Our aim is to create more than just a garden; it’s a fertile ground where children and community members will learn the intricate art of planting, growing, and harvesting their own food. It’s a place where fresh vegetables will flourish to supplement the daily meals of 1000 schoolchildren – every single day, organic, fresh carrots, spinach, broccoli, potatoes, beetroot (and more!) that are harvested will feed the school children a healthy, nutritious lunch.
Beyond that, the garden will serve as a haven where clubs and community members will gather to nurture a love for nature, and where children will find solace in a green and peaceful space, away from the harsh realities that exist outside the school grounds.
Earlier this year we launched a safe yoga classroom in Ntwasahlobo Primary School (read about this here) and the space has hosted hundreds of yoga sessions, teachers workshops and Crown Sisters Clubs already, cultivating a sense of well-being and empowerment. Now, we’re thrilled to integrate this eco-friendly addition of a thriving garden into our diverse programmes at Ntwasahlobo.
How You Can Help
Imagine the impact of your support…For just 50€ per child, you can help us nurture a future generation that values nature, understands sustainability, and cherishes the environment. Your donation will support the setup and maintenance of this organic food garden, ensuring 1000 children receive wholesome meals every day, and empowering them with a deeper connection to the natural world around them. Your generosity can transform a barren patch of land into a thriving ecosystem, providing not just food but also knowledge and inspiration.
