“Many people kill insects, because they don’t know more about them. Maybe it wants a warm home or wants help. Now I’ve joined Eco Warriors, I’ll not kill it. I’ll just let it go wherever she or he wants to be.”

These are the words of Snengomso, a Grade 6 learner at one of our partner schools. Her honesty and curiosity capture the essence of what it means to be an Eco Warrior – to approach the world with kindness, respect, and a willingness to learn.

Snengomso joined Earthchild Project in Grade 3. Since then, she has been learning how to care for plants, protect animals, grow food, and treat nature with love. She sings to plants as she waters them, watches them grow, and shares the harvest with her community. Every small act becomes a step toward understanding and nurturing the world around her.

Snengomso dreams of one day becoming an Earthchild Project facilitator herself, helping younger learners discover the joy of caring for the environment and seeing the impact of their actions firsthand.

At Earthchild Project, real environmental leadership begins with connection, curiosity, compassion, and responsibility for all living things. Through programmes like Eco Warriors, we show that environmental education is about creating experiences, cultivating empathy, and inspiring young people to become the change-makers of tomorrow.

From gardens in classrooms to insect encounters in homes, change begins in the small, thoughtful actions of young hearts, like Snengomso’s.
