To kick off Term 3, our Khayelitsha and Lavender Hill teams, together with Marketing, Operations, Project Management, and the gardeners from all six of our school gardens, came together for a day of connection, laughter, and delicious food at Food Jams.
After the rave reviews from last year’s team day, we knew we had to go back, and it certainly didn’t disappoint! We mixed up departments and programme areas, creating new teams that chopped, stirred, tasted, and cooked their way through a feast of local and international dishes. From butter chicken curry and hake to pumpkin fritters, fresh salads, pap, and warm pita breads, there was something for every palate! For many, it was their first time making some of these dishes, and we may even have discovered a few hidden chefs along the way!
As always, the best ingredient wasn’t on the menu…it was the people. We danced (a lot!) to Michael Jackson, shared plenty of laughs, and enjoyed the opportunity to connect with colleagues we don’t always get to work alongside each other.
One of the most memorable moments came when Ziva, one of our gardeners, stood up to say how happy he was to spend the day with the wider Earthchild Project team. It reminded us that across different schools, programmes, and communities, we’re all part of one organisation with one shared purpose.
It was the perfect way to kick off Term 3…well-fed, well-connected, and ready for another exciting season ahead. 💛
